Have you ever wanted to make your own products that you buy so often in the store? Or have you ever gone to the store and thought I need a larger bottle of this, but you didn’t want to purchase multiples to get the volume you needed? Well, I have. Many times I’m in the store and I want more of this or less of that. The difference for me always ends us being the price. Several years ago, I started experimenting with Aloe. I recall my father and mother drinking Aloe and one day sneaking into the refrigerator to drink it only to spit it out abruptly. It tasted horrible. I would have never thought as a child that Aloe would become such a staple in my pantry. Today I use aloe for so many things. I use it to make a creamy bar of soap. I use it in my feminine cosmetic products and I just adore it for my skincare and haircare applications. And I ESPECIALLY LOVE IT in the colon. So today, I wanted to share with you a basic recipe.
Aloe is one of those plants that has too many benefits to list. The Aloe Vera plant dates back to early Egyptian times. Stone carvings dating back 6,000 years had the aloe vera plant depicted on them. It was also presented in burial rituals for kings and pharoahs. Historically, aloe has been used to to treat skin conditions, heal wounds, burns and internally as a laxative. When my parents used it they used it to reduce blood pressure and diabetes. I didn’t know it then, but that must have been where I got my naturopathic bug from they were practicing natural medicine. Today. aloe is used in traditional medicine for sunburns, psoriasis, eczema, stomach ailments and detoxing programs . The lists goes on and on. So, I won’t bore you. Here’a recipe that I make in batches for my products and detox laxative products.
What can I do with my new aloe based product?

For the past two months I have been dealing with a cold and a dry persistent cough. Each cold has occurred after flying on an airplane and has left residual symptoms. Well, today it got me to thinking after receiving an email about coughs. In American we have declared October to May, Flu season. Wow! A whole season dedicated to being sick. Only in American do we do this. The more I thought about it. The more I wondered why flu gets a season. We don’t have eczema season or broken leg season. Yet, during the summer we see a rise in eczema and in the spring we see more kids with broken legs (sports related), but we don’t call it a season. You know why? There is no big money in eczema or broken leg season in comparison to cold or flu. We will never see the shelves of our drug stores lined with broken leg or skin rash treatments because we don’t have a wide variety of these options available for tretment. There are only a few creams that typically treat eczema and a broken leg typically requires a cast or boot of some sort.
Whoever created “flu season” was a marketing genius. If we fool the people into thinking that there is a season for it, we can prepare for it, create marketing strategies and create a wide variety of drugs to treat it. This marketing strategy is so genius that we have created medication just for the signs and symptoms of cold. The cold and flu season is a billion dollar business. It is single handedly the best marketing strategy. We all know that there is no cure for the common cold. Yet, how many of us get the Flu vaccine? I thought vaccination meant prevention. But, if you are like me, the two times that I took the “Flu Shot” within days I had the Flu. What a joke, right? I want you to put your thinking caps on. Why take a vaccine for preventing the Flu, when each year there is a new strand of the Flu? The current strand is not what we are being vaccinated for. Therefore, how could it prevent? As I said before marketing genius. I should have bought stock.
Think about it, in no other condition do we treat just the symptoms per se. As a naturalist, I look to natural remedies for cold and flu, but the last time I got sick, my hubby threatened me and I caved in and went to the drug store for a cure. It had been awhile since I’d been on the cold/flu isle in the drug store. So when I saw my choices, the look of sheer panic was in my eyes. How could I choose? There were too many medications to choose from. If I chose the medication with dry eyes, runny nose then I wouldn’t be treated with the one for the dry cough. If I got the medication that had cough suppressant, sneezing and itchy nose, then I couldn’t get the one with the aches and pain. And let’s not forget whether or not I needed with sleeping aid or without drowsiness. Now why would I want to be drowsy with the flu? Wouldn’t I want to be awake or asleep? Somehow being drowsy with the flu would probably make me feel worse; to have the flu and couldn’t sleep would irritate me more. I settled for the Tylenol Theraflu. It was back on the market after being removed and this always made me feel better years ago even if it did not do anything to treat me. It’s like chicken soup. Somehow it makes you feel better taking it when you are sick.
As I began to read the email that I received about the different kinds of cough, I begin thinking about my own persistent cough. It had become a growing concern for me as I interacted with the public. My coughing had become an attention grabber, especially at restaurants. With the anxiety level of everyone due to Ebola, I am looked at more suspiciously as my coughing spells takes center stage. I can’t explain to everyone that looks at me that my coughing spells are a side effect of a new medication that my doctor put me on to treat another condition and that while I have discontinued that medication that I have no guarantee that this cough will go away. Thank you modern medicine! I continually fight with my family, friends and doctors when it comes to treating certain conditions. My answer is the same, a cold and the flu will go away if left untreated. For those of you who will say that the cold will turn into the flu if left untreated, this is not medically true. A cold is a different virus from the flu. The cold does not mutate to the flu. The flu is the flu. Our society has been filled with unfounded beliefs and because my grandmother and your grandmother do not hold MD degrees then their old wives, homebrews, and concoctions cannot possibly work to the medical professionals.
Never mind the “white lightening” (my treatment of choice now) that your grandmother gave you that cut the cold in half the time and as we say “pulled the cold right out of you.” Or the gin, lemon and honey that stop you from coughing up a lung. Who’s to say that Echinacea didn’t treat the cold that you had or the cold liver oil that made you spend an evening in the bathroom wasn’t therapeutic? I can recall feeling like I was at death’s door when a member from the church brought me “white lightening” to take the last time I had the Flu. I credit her with my ability to be on this side of life because death came “a knocking” with the last Flu.
Since we don’t have a cure for the cold/flu conventionally or homeopathically, your choice of treatment is whatever works for your body’s chemistry. I personally believe that virus/bacteria in, virus/bacteria out. If some foreign or toxic substance has invaded my body, I try to employ every avenue to rid my body of it. For me the pathway to least resistance is to remove the virus through the bowels. That’s what it was created for. REMOVING TOXINS. Whether it is an enema, colonic, vomiting the key is to remove the offense from the body. Supportive care with something that will soothe sore throat (honey) and relieve congestion (aromatherapy) and balanced nutrition (chicken soup) are my go to remedies. I haven’t bought into the Flu season. Just a few weeks ago, a friend and I attended a craft fair and you wouldn’t believe someone was there selling flu shots. I’m like; you have to be kidding me. Really? A Flu shot at a craft fair. It really is big business. I can’t go anywhere or watch television without someone urging me to take a Flu Shot. This is big business and we all are embracing it. If each year there is a new strain of the flu virus, please help me understand that by injected the strain from the year before will help me with the new strand for the current year. (Buyer Beware.)
Here is a really cool, free way to prevent the cold and flu. WASH YOUR HANDS! This has still proven to be the most effective prevention. These viruses can only infect if you place contaminated hands in eyes, nose or mouth. So take the extra precaution and wash hands. When coming into contact with inanimate surfaces clean the areas and then disinfect. This is important and why I will digress for a moment.
Hand sanitizers are not efficient at keeping you protected from colds and the flu. Hand sanitizers are usually made with alcohol and gel. The alcohol is the only active ingredient in the sanitizer. The gel and the other ingredients are just fillers. To effectively clean the hand the sanitizer needs to be at least 62% alcohol. While many say that they have 62% alcohol one must argue that with all the added ingredients are you getting at least 62% alcohol. Additionally there is a required time that it has to be on the hand in order to clean. All bacteria may not be dead. This will give you a false sense of security.
To enlighten you on a much needed conversation, there is a difference between cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting and antibacterialization. For an object to be disinfected or sanitized is needs to be cleaned first. So the surface area needs to be cleaned first. This is why I struggle with hand sanitizers and to the dismay of my friends who know that I won’t accept hand sanitizers at lunch when offered is because I know the truth. I would much rather use soap and good fashion water. The CDC maintains that hand sanitizers are good when soap and water are not an option.
To get back to my coughing situation, I found myself in the store after a gentleman darted his eyes at me in a restaurant and with his eyes asked me, do you have Ebola? I was out of town this past weekend and did not have my usual homemade remedies. As I perused the shelves at Wal-Mart ( I was out of town) for a cough suppressant I was paralyzed with what cough suppressants to take. I mean I literally couldn’t make up my mind because if I bought one bottle that treated this type of cough then I would I miss out on the other benefits of the other medication with the other kind of cough. What is one to do in situations like this? I closed my eyes and I picked one. What could possible go wrong. All of them must work since they are on the shelf, right?
It never occurred to me during this pressure to take a cough syrup that I was trying to treat something that I already knew the origin of. I was trying to suppress something that I know I should never suppress. A cough is a God designed event to get rid of something that is in the respiratory tract that should not be there. Why would I cave into the pressure of pleasing someone else at the expense of my health? How many of us flock to the drug store because we do not want to be one coughing or sneezing at work? Or better yet, I don’t want to be around someone who is constantly coughing. We all know that it is annoying to others. Rather than sympathy, we excommunicate others and treat people like they have the plague when they have the flu or coughs. As I sit and type, I’m thinking that a cough is a reminder that God built my body to heal itself. I’m also reminded that my cold or a cough doesn’t make me sick. It’s just a condition to my environment. So, I am not in a season. Because I don’t live in a bubble, things happen. I won’t give a cold or flu the credit this year. In fact, I will largely ignore it. Just because it’s here doesn’t mean I have to acknowledge it.

Meet our new Brand Ambassador, Nia Gabrielle. We wanted to find a way to bring a message to young women who are not only socially conscious about natural products, but who would represent holistic values. I Value My Vagina, is the words of empowerment that I would hear from a friend, Mary B. Morrison. She told me about a platform that she wanted to speak to women about. I Value My Vagina, was what I thought we as women needed to repeat to ourselves and our daughters over and over again. It would also be the perfect platform for what I was doing in the natural health arena as it concerns feminine health. The pH Restore products from Laeh Shea Naturals, are our most prized products due to the sensitivity that we women carry when it comes to vaginal health. Having the talk with your daughter is something many women shy away from. They say, “oh, it’s not time yet” or “she’s too young to understand”. Teens are a lot smarter these days due to the internet. The conversations with your daughters may surprise you. You may actually learn from a kid.
Recently, we launched our product in a OB/GYN office in the Atlanta Georgia area. Several women were there to discuss female issues. After the presentation of Dr. Benita Stephens the women present were given an opportunity to ask questions. Can you believe, how hard it was for the first woman to ask a question? It took several promptings before anyone would speak. Dr. Stephens knew we had questions, but too afraid to ask. I’m sure all of us were there because we had questions, yet not one person wanted to speak up and say, I have chronic infections, bladder leakage, inorgasmic or extreme dryness. Somehow in our minds it is still dirty when we talk about sex. Or we don’t want to be outed as unclean if we suffer from infections. If you were raised like me, then sex was that dirty word we didn’t talk about or let alone do. For years I struggled with vaginal discharge. I always thought I had some type of infection and this lead me to be less intimate with my partner or husband. It was only in my thirties did I find out a small amount of discharge is normal. I was so glad to hear Dr. Stephens explain this to the ladies. She was also able to debunk many things that we thought about our vagina. For one thing, she told the ladies the difference between our ovaries, vagina, cervix and uterus. Yes, some of them didn’t know. Do you know how many women think that just because they had a hysterectomy that they automatically went into menopause? This miseducation of women has to stop! A small discharge is your body’s attempt to detox impurities. I can now look back at all the times I purchased the Monistat ( I should have stock in the company) or begged my doctor to prescribe me something. After all, what woman wanted to be intimate with a man if you have a discharge?
When I became a formulator after years of being a clinical research scientist, the world of natural medicine reversed so many things I had learned in college and been taught professionally. I had safety in knowing that there was a pill for any ailment. So I thought. When I started back having feminine issues in my early thirties, I knew I needed something different. The medication wasn’t working. Or better yet, it would work for a week or two and then my symptoms would return. As I began to research natural plants, oils, herbs and compounds, I began to realize that much of what I had learned in pharmaceutical science was that most medicines came from natural resources until then 1900’s when we began to make more synthetic drugs. So I started there with my approach. I began studying products that were natural and organic that worked and had some evidence based model from which I could draw upon.
It lead me to develop pH Restore. You see most of my vaginal issues centered around an imbalance in the natural ecology of my delicate area. I had changed the pH and made the environment there a hostile ground. The first thing I needed to do was to find and use only products that were native to that area. Meaning the products had to be more acidic. Everything I had been using was alkaline. From the soap that I was using to the products on my hair, although it was natural, the pH was still way too high. I began making my own soap. Even my original soap that I was formulating wasn’t good for this area. While being all natural it was still too high in pH. I consulted with girlfriends and most of them wouldn’t even admit that this was an issue. I felt alone. I was too embarrassed to talked to anyone else about it. I won’t even go into the endless bathing ritual. I finally had enough when a young lady walked into my office. She wanted a cure for yeast once and for all. We spoke at length and I felt her pain. I was no longer alone in the fight. She had experienced similar symptoms and tried everything from the doctor and the internet. I told her my story and what I had done in my journey. She said, I will try anything. We both found relief, but not a cure. Our problems went away they just didn’t come back as soon as before. I embarked on a two year journey to perfect the right soap for my “sweet spot”. And I found her in 2013.
pH Restore is my most prized product. It is prized because many women have told me that it brought back sexual confidence, vaginal hygiene and even treatment from chronic yeast infections. Now, I don’t claim to have a cure. I just know that this product works for me. I feel clean, I am clean and most importantly, I have confidence with my vaginal hygiene. I am willing to speak freely about this now because I am on the other side of treatment. Feminine hygiene doesn’t have to be the silent treatment we don’t talk about. Restore your pH today!
Private labeling cosmetics is what I prefer to do these days. When I am asked how do you make shea butter, I always say it’s easy, go on the web there are many sites that provide tutorials. I don’t mind giving out formulas or recipes to many cosmetics, but I do draw the line when it comes to Shea Butter. I adore the entire science behind Shea Butter. In fact, Shea Butter science is my platform. I love teaching about, lecturing and bringing added value to the cosmetic industry as I travel from conference to conference, convention to convention or training other formulators. Shea Butter science is still so new in the USA. When I started out making products there was virtually nothing available on the internet or in books regarding Shea Science. Largely, most things about Shea Butter wasn’t even written about. How could such a hot commodity be so ignored? I’d later learn that it is true for many native butters, oils, herbs that are not indigenous to us, to not be studied extensively because many of these products are in poverty stricken countries. They lack the resources to make these products mainstream. Many of these oils today in these countries are still used for traditional cooking, medicines and cosmetics to a lesser degree. Since any of these are not regulated they haven’t until recently found their way into the USA. But, I have digressed.
Private labeling cosmetics gives me the benefit of helping a company or individual who may not have the experience or background that I have to create a wonderful product. The satisfaction for me is that my product is still out in the public it just doesn’t bear my name. It allows me to sit in the background and still reap the benefits especially if the company is more popular than I am. They have a farther reach in the market. My personal line is still small in comparison to others because my line of products focuses on a niche. For many, we want to see our name in the spotlight and that is good. We’ve dreamed about having our name and products in every household. To be honest, that has never been my dream. I’ve been lowkey most of my life until the last 6 years. I guess I’m a late bloomer. Traveling the country teaching and training has provided me such valuable insights. I’ve added product ingredients that I would have never personally used until someone asked me to formulate a specific product and I started researching ingredients. Private labeling broadens your scope of knowledge. When you private label a product your customer may want your formula, however, they want a variation to it. Although this may end of up as a custom new product, some of my best work has been when I tweaked one of my formulas for a private label customer.
As I have grown more experience in formulating, I much enjoy the private label side more so than my own line. I’ve tried to stay true to my brand and its simplicity. It is still made by hand and it is very much organic in the sense that I have tampered much with it. My pours are not always exact amounts. Some customers get way more product than they should. My colors may change if I’m more heavy handed on the colorant or if it the temperatures change. In times of backorders, my jars and packaging change. I even have fragrances that shift. A newly manufactured fragrance versus one that has aged for months may change the fragrance concentration of a staple product. This is the part I love about Laeh Shea. You get most of me in every product. Pure and Simple! But it works for me. My customers have come to love this about me. My customers want functionality and not a “off the assembly line” product. For them pretty packaging doesn’t equate to how they want their eczema, dry skin or problem skin repaired. They simply want a product that works.
When I private label, I don’t have the luxury to do that sometimes. Most of my private label companies want consistency over time. They desire a product that looks the same every time they purchase. I get that and truly understand it. But, consistency rarely happens if you want TRULY ORGANIC. They very nature of organic should tell one that no two are alike. I’m so sadden with the misappropriation of the word Organic. Everyone wants organic, but we still want it to look pretty or the same every time we purchase it. This is especially true for Shea Butter. Every where on the internet we see Organic Shea Butter. The truth of the matter is that the Shea trees grow in the wild, and even alongside trees that are crop dusted. How can anything be truly organic after that? Droplet are known to travel hundred to thousands of miles. So, in all honesty we can’t say organic. Additionally, some of these trees were planted twenty five to hundred of years and there is no documentation on how the tree was planted. My thinking may be extreme, but we can’t account for hundreds to thousands of miles of trees.
2015 Shea Butter Convention
We all know or at least believe that shea butter is here to stay. It is regarded as the Tree of Life and I will be so bold as to say that it is for many African women. The story hasn’t been fully told of the dangers that many of these women face collecting the nuts. Here in America, we regard this butter as a luxury to our skin and hair. It’s not a fad, but a movement in America. But, sadly the picture is not so pretty for the many women who labor to bring shea butter to our market.
Did you know that the many women who produce shea butter for our usage in the US to be used as cosmetics and in European countries for confectionary chocolate, are unfairly treated? Wages are unfairly paid, resources are dismal and they lack tools to produce the shea butter. Many of these women walk long miles to collect the nut in dangerous terrain. In some regions of the Shea Belt these women risk their lives by being bitten by snakes. Some have even died. This year as I lectured at The American Shea Butter Institute’s annual convention, I became aware of a group of women who this is an absolute reality for. The economic structure for these women barely exists. You may ask yourself who’s problem is this? It’s yours and mines? Not because we have a direct hand at treating these women poorly , but when you become a silent collaborator, you are complicit in areas where you as a shea butter retailer, wholesaler, formulator and end user. What makes America great is our humanity and goodwill. Our humanity should count for something. And it should not just be for what goes on in our back yard. These sisters directly and indirectly make our lives a little more easier to live by.
Shea Butter is a huge commodity in the US now. Every major cosmetic company has jumped on the Shea Butter bandwagon. Whether is large corporations like L’oreal or Proctor and Gamble, if we are not responsive to the unfair practices that these women endure to help our industry, why support us? We all have our crosses to bear. And of course everyone has a political, social, and moral agenda. Your fight might not be my fight. But, since I’ve founded a company on Shea Butter, I, bear some responsibility to these women. I’ve never considered myself to be a social activist, but to sit idly by and do nothing, it just wrong on so many levels for me.
Most of these African woman make pennies to our dollars. They are under-educated and under-resourced. The internet boast many Shea Butter retailers that speak of their fair-trade relationships with these women. It is just rhetoric. Many of them have never been on the ground to understand their true needs. Sadly, what we have done is made alliances and agreements to go over there and improve conditions for our benefit, not there’s. No matter how you spin rape is the same in every culture!
The American Shea Butter Institute, exists to help train villagers into the proper processing techniques of Shea Butter, improve best extraction methods, and increase profitability for the producers of Shea Butter to get qualified, certified Grade A Shea Butter. They do this without financial gain. It is has been the visionary of one pioneer, Dr. Samuel Hunter, MD. Each year, he hosts an annual convention with attendees only from Shea producing countries looking to market their raw product here in the US mostly funded by himself. There is never large corporation such as L’oreal, Proctor & Gamble, and Retailers of Shea Butter ever in attendance or supporting the efforts of ASBI. I often ask myself why? These companies make millions here and yet, there is no visibility to help these women. I’ve invited them to the table, but never a response. I think I know why? It’s all about the profit margin. These companies only care about the bottom line. To deal with a non-profit organization that truly works within the African communities to improve Shea Butter, may mean you have to change your practices. Here’s what you will learn when you invest your time with these women. You will learn of big governments that only pay pennies to these women and there’s political fights that these women are not armed for battle to win.
I am obviously sensitive in this area. But, I, too have benefit too from these ladies unfairly. It’s the reason I now and will continue to advocate. Injustice anywhere is Injustice everywhere!
Laeh Shea, LLC
28.5 oz. olive oil
15 oz. Shea Butter
4.5 oz. castor oil
18 fluid oz. (2.25 cups) coconut milk
6.06 oz. lye
1 Tbsp of sodium lactate to coconut milk before the lye
Freeze the coconut milk before hand. Add slowly to the lye. (It doesn’t seem to burn as easily as goat or sheep’s milk.) Combine lye/milk and oils at 110 degrees. I like to use a stick blender for shorts spurts until trace . Add fragrance or additives at trace and insulate molded soap for 18-24 hours. This is a creamy soap and feels amazing on the skin.
One of the common questions I get is how do I know I have bad shea. To look at Shea Butter it is hard to determine if your Shea Butter is bad just on initial presentation. Some people believe that Shea Butter that has turned white is bad Shea Butter. I purchase only Grade A, certified Shea Butter that has been approved by the American Shea Butter Institute. I know that I say it over and over again that Shea Butter has to be certified. But, I can’t say it enough. If you don’t want mold, mildew, fungus, bacteria and other toxins, then you must purchase only certified Shea Butter. This is the biggest culprit for those who constantly struggle with getting good qualified Shea Butter and why the butter has gone bad so quickly. Shea Butter smells woody and woody notes to it. If your Shea Butter smells burnt then don’t use it. Forget what many say when they say the smells comes from the roasting of the nuts. Shea Butter should not smell burnt, malodorous or spoiled. Shea Butter doesn’t smell pleasant, but its odor shouldn’t be offensive. When in doubt, throw it out.
The great thing about Shea Butter is that it has a long shelf life. Shea Butter has been known to be good for up to 24 months. But, there are some things that you can determine if your Shea. If your Shea has turned white and has a rancid smell then your Shea Butter probably is not of good quality and it should be thrown out. If you’ve kept your butter in the car and it has been in different temperature climates your Shea Butter has gone through some change physically and chemically. It is best to keep your Shea Butter in a dark cool place to preserve it bioactive ingredients.
Shea Butter is full of antioxidants and Vitamin E which is great for your skin, but also lends to the preservation of the butter. While antioxidants are not preservatives as many people believe, it does delay the degradation of your Shea Butter.
How To Stability Test a Cosmetic Formula
The biggest difference between what you experienced in your DIY kitchen versus a college organic chemistry lab is KNOWLEDGE. In an organic lab, you mix chemicals together and hope something magical happens. Your mixture A mixes with your Mixture B. And if you’re lucky you get the formula you had expected. As a formulator, you mix chemicals together and hope nothing disastrous happens. Cosmetics are mixtures of complex chemicals that mostly don’t play well together.
Unfortunately, many things that we mix more often than not don’t react together and the results are not quite what you hoped for. This is why testing is so important. So you need to test your formulas to see how long it will last. Ask yourself what conditions made the product last and can you continuously create this environment. This is called Stability Testing. Stability is something that we must spend many man hours doing to not only perfect our formulas, but to make sure the product is stable
Why stability testing?
All cosmetic scientists, chemists, formulators and DIYers must prove their product stable before it can be massed produced or be given to someone for purchase. Stability testing is proof that you have done due diligence to make sure your product remains stabilized over various conditions. Remember your product will be potentially shipped across different times zones, temperature and environments.
How to Perform Stability Testing
First you create a master batch of your formula. Put samples of your formula in different environmental conditions for a set period of time. I like to do 6 month and 12 months testing. Yes, I know that seems extreme, but what happens if your product does not sell quickly? Your customers would not like to invest in products that have a short shelf life. Test your product in conditions that vary in temperature and light; especially if your products have fragrance and oils in it. Fragrances and oils can make or break your product. Most products with fragrances and essential oils must be protected from light to delay breaking down. What you are doing with stability testing is simulating an environment in which your product will be stored.
Create an Excel spreadsheet that allows you to track data periodically. For example, Sample A you may want to note texture, smell and stability at 1 week intervals. I would suggest at first to do biweekly intervals at least the first two months and then monthly after that. At select intervals you evaluate your samples for various physical, chemical and performance characteristics to see how they have changed. If the changes have occurred go back and look at what you can change. For example if the fragrance has disappeared in the formula. Consider adding a little more fragrance to the maximum load. You may need to add only essential oils. But, these two have shelf lives. So there are many factors to consider before you truly launch a product. Repeat every necessary step until you are happy with your product. If there are variations, you might consider a warning label or an expiration date. The bottom line is this, you must make a safe product and this critical step cannot be overlooked.
Oxidation is the biggest enemy to product stability. As the product is exposed to air, the more the product ages or degrades. Take the necessary steps in the beginning. You might want to choose air sealed containers, light protected jar or bottles. Invest in the right stuff in the beginning and you will not have to go back to the drawing board as often. A sample stored at 45C for 8 weeks is equivalent to one stored at room temperature for a year. This isn’t exact science, but it is a great starting point. Since you’ll be making hundreds or thousands of prototypes during your career, it won’t be practical to run a stability test on all of them. Sometimes your products are so spontaneous or they become a big hit in the testing phase and you need to get the product out sooner than expected. Are you free to give up on stability testing? Absolutely not! Find time, even after you’ve formulated a product and do the product testing. If there are ever any potential lawsuits, you have done your due diligence by testing.
You’ll also find that changes happen so rapidly at your company, you won’t have time to properly test many of your formulas. But there are times when you need to do stability testing. Here is a short list of some of the most important times to conduct a stability test. Also, remember that everything that you make will not be successful. Disappointing, I know. But, most people are lucky to have one major product that they develop that is the best seller. The great thing about having one product is not just manageability, but one great product can be changed with the increase of a few additional ingredients or just changing fragrances, container design or making the product multi-functional. Think about for a moment, there are many companies that sell only one product. However, they have managed to make that one product appeal to different consumers. The best example of this is soap. You may not have ever thought about this, but liquid soap is one them. For example, you have liquid dish soap, liquid laundry detergent, liquid hand soap and body wash. These products are essentially the same thing with slight variations, yet we’ve found many different uses for these products to sell to consumers. Now tell me, have you ever considered just buying a large order of liquid soap and using it throughout your house? Probably not. Of course, not because you thought you needed a different soap for dishes, a different soap for your hands, a different soap for laundry and a different soap for the body. I want even get into shampoo. Same product, but the advertisers deceived you.
I test, whenever; I have a totally new product. So all my new prototypes get stability testing. If am using new raw materials that I don’t have a working knowledge of then I test, test, test. I won’t have no clue how this product works over time if I don’t do the leg work now. In my early days, I have had several products that failed after adding some new great herb, fragrance or raw ingredient that has become popular. These days now, I pretty much stick with the known and proven staple ingredients. I have a documented history on this and I can build from these products.
One thing that I must pause to mention here is that there will come times when you have purchased ingredients that you have used time and time again and yet, your product is not stabilizing. The problem may not be you, the problem make be with the manufacturer. This is a big problem for me when I am working with pure organic materials. If something is truly organic it is not the same every time. This is the fight that I have with many organizations. In my case I use 100% pure, unrefined, Grade A Shea Butter. However, the texture and consistency is never the same all the time. I combat this by adding a disclaimer to my website or placing it on my packaging. I have found that this helps me more than hurt me. My customers love the transparency.
Happy Stability Testing!
It’s that time again. The annual American Shea Butter Institute International Convention. I’ve had the distinct pleasure for the past 5 years to be a part of a global initiative to bring Shea Butter to hearts and minds of those in the Shea Butter Industry. This year, I will be lecturing on “New Shea Butter based Product Development.” This convention is like no other that I have ever been in. We are at the forefront of bring true recognition to the value that Shea Butter add to the US economy. You would be hard pressed these days to find any health and beauty product that doesn’t contain or report to claim Shea Butter. The sad part of this truth is that much of what is used here in the US is not pure Shea Butter, but inferior Shea Butter. Can you imagine how much Shea Butter that is used in American products that has not been lab tested? Most Shea Butter imported here is not lab tested and contains very harmful contaminants such as lead, mercury, mold, mildew and fungus. I have partnered with ASBI to get Shea Butter regulated to be tested. Chances are if you purchased Shea Butter from anyone other than companies who have certified their butter to be lab tested in African and then again in the USA, then you’ve purchased inferior Shea Butter.
Currently, ASBI is the only lab that is testing and grading Shea Butter. Dr. Samuel Hunter, MD, PhD, is the pioneer and leading expert in Shea Butter and Shea Butter technologies. He had worked with the government of African and the US to bring science to Shea Butter. Whether you formulate your products or distribute large quantities of Shea Butter wholesale, we are working with government officials to bring and certify quality Shea Butter for use in the USA. I hope to see you at the convention this year. You will surely learn alot. Make plans to be at 2015 Shea Butter Convention.

Have you ever been curious about what something smelled like when you read the name of it? I have. Well, if you want to know what Pink Sugar smells like, all I can say is think of the most feminine and alluring smell. It is that one smell that you say, I want it in a soap, air-freshener, body oil, hair-care products, and maybe even food. Well, maybe not food, but definitely a drink. Pink Sugar is the hottest fragrance that we have right now. It’s running a distant second to our every popular “Shea Baby” scent and I tell you, over here in the lab, we just love it. A few weeks ago, Dr. Harris made a Pink Sugar Candle and I can’t begin to tell you how these never made it to the website. The staff and family consumed these prized candles for presents during the holidays. We couldn’t keep up with the orders for this new fragrant piece of heaven. Catch this new scent at Laeh Shea, PINK SUGAR.

Scientists think the reason using sea salt scrubs(or other scrubs) helps tighten skin after weight loss is that they encourage increased blood flow, which in turn encourages healthy, elastic skin. Whatever the exact reason, it does seem to work for many people… try using a good scrub in the shower twice a day, at least three times a week, and see if it helps you! Coffe scrubs are also extremely good, just a little bit of can go a very long way! The benefits of a coffee shea butter scrub is too numerous. We love it just for the skin tightening effect and of course the water weight loss does not hurt our feelings either .
Although coffee has several benefits as a beverage, it may be used as a body scrub as well. A study conducted in Korea found that the caffeic acid found in coffee grounds can significantly affect anti-inflammatory activity and skin wound healing. You can make your own homemade coffee scrubs by simply combining used coffee grounds with an equal amount of of sugar or salt in a bowl. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil. Our order our premium coffee scrub. Only available at Laeh Shea. www.laehshea.com. “Love the Skin You’re In.”
If you haven’t tried Laeh Shea’s black soap you haven’t lived yet. If you are one of the few people who haven’t discovered the many wonderful benefits of this soap, then you are in for a surprise. People who prefers products like Origins, Body Shop, and Aveeda will absolutely love and appreciate pure African Black Soap. Made from cocoa pods, virgin coconut oil, and Shea Butter, this Soap packs vitamin A, C, and D power. Loaded with anti-aging anti-oxidants, pure African Black Soap is an essential for stressed out skin of all skin types. The Soap is made in the traditional way by villagers in Ghana who have worked to form a community cooperative that benefits all within their community.
Black Soap’s original recipe came from the neighboring country of Nigeria who had for a long time used coconut, palm, and Shea Butter in their Soaps. However the recipe is different from one village to the next. Workers from Ghana took this receipt back to their country and began to play with the formula. The villagers found that the pods discarded from cocoa production could be used in the lye process and altered the recipe to create “Black” Soap, allowing them to further utilize the waste in a productive manner.
Renowned across Africa for its various health and wellness benefits, organic African Black Soap is one of the healthiest Soaps you can buy for the skin. The purity of the ingredients themselves can be traced to their organic cultivation methods. The undiluted nutrients in this simple Soap are loaded with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The Soap both cleanses and moisturizes the skin with its nourishing balance of ingredients
Black Soap is also multifunctional. Used as a natural exfoliate, black soap can be used to remove the dry skin cells which build up over time. Unlike the Soap purchased in most stores, Black Soap cleanses without drying the skin out. Black Soap will foam into a rich lather with tiny bubbles that penetrate the skin, removing any dirt and oil to clog your pores. The lather cleanses while enriching the skin with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Black Soap can also be used as a shampoo, body wash, and facial soap as the ingredients contained with in have natural moisturizers. The versatility of this product is endless.
The Black Soap by Laeh Shea made by the villagers in Ghana, in the traditional method and is free from dyes, charcoal, artificial perfumes, and animal products. It is a Fair Trade product and organic. Laeh Shea travels to Ghana yearly to purchase our products from Ghana and other wholesale manufacturers who purchase through fair-trade. Buying this product from Laeh Shea enables the entire village to share in the task of producing a better life for their community.
I have a growing concern for Shea Butter here in the USA. I’m amazed at the different types of Shea Butter that is being sold here that many companies are passing off as authentic Shea Butter. I’ve recently partnered with the American Shea Butter Institute to bring awareness as well as education to what pure Grade A Shea Butter is. It is confusing to the untrained observer how to determine what represents good Shea Butter. Without becoming a scientist or a chemist, it is virtually hard to detect what constitutes pure Shea Butter. But, I want to give you some guidelines for purchasing Shea Butter. To maintain the quality of Shea Butter it should be kept at a constant temperature or refrigerated when not in use, Shea Butter should not be handled with hands and that pure Shea Butter that is not filtered for impurities, mold, yeast, fungus and bacteria should not be formulated into products or used on the body. If this is not guranteed then I wouldn’t purchase. Currently the American Shea Butter Institute is the only company that performs lab testing for Shea Butter. I’m particulary sensitive to addressing Shea Butter education. I’ve founded my company on the many undiscovered and underused benefits of Shea Butter. The American Shea Butter Institute, will be offering Shea Butter courses along with it’s certification in 2012. Coming soon will be a website for shea butter formulations at www.sheabutterchemistry.com. Please visit there in the next few months for all your do-it-yourselfers and formulators.
Respectfully, Dr. Harris

Finding the right shampoo for blonde hair that is transitioning from perm and color to natural can be frightening. The general rule of washing your hair everyday may need to be ignored. Shampooing your hair every day with harmful sulfates can lead to dry, brittle hair. Hair that has been chemically treated needs a little tender love and care, but not through drying sulfates that rid the hair of its natural oil. No Poo or Low Poo Shampoos are great for keeping blonde highlights or blonde hair shiny and healthy. Regularly doing a lemon rinse will also provide a decent shine to natural blonde hair. Maintaining your tresses with minimal heat and harsh chemicals will ensure that your hair remains red carpet ready. Many believe that caucasian hair doesn’t need oil. I beg to differ. Hair and Skin does require oil for health and repair. A shea butter conditioner provides the right strength that your hair needs on a daily basis to protect it from the suns harmful rays and toxic chemicals in our environment. Shea Butter hair is hair that lives.

Black Soap for Acne and Eczema is a popular trend among many who suffer from skin disease or disorder. Many are finding resolution to trouble skin with the use of black soap. As a eczema sufferer, I am an avid user of black soap and shea butter. Out of all the products that and prescription medication, these two products were the only ones that provided for me a cure. I can say that I no longer have break outs or flares. It’s been nearly two years and my eczema is completely gone or is in remission. The unsightly scars and discoloration is a thing of the past since I have been formulating my own products. You too can have healthier skin.

Columbus, Georgia has to look no further for Authentic African Black Soap from Ghana. We are the new distributor for Cosmetic Grade pure African Black Soap. Whether you are looking to make your own products or buy Laeh Shea products with African Black Soap, we are sure that you won’t be disappointed in quality. African Black Soap is rich in potassium and is an excellent mild soap for the face and body. Black Soap or African Black Soap, has its orgins in West Africa. It has been used for centuries in Ghana. Ghana is where Laeh Shea purchases it’s pure authentic African Black Soap. The methods for making the soap is a closely guarded secret, however, many villages use different ingredients for black soap. So there are many variations. Some black soap contain Shea Butter, some contain Palm Kernel Oil. Many have tried to create their version of black soap with all kinds of ingredients. Laeh Shea Black soap and it’s products that contain black soap is the best quality because it is the ORIGINAL.
For centuries, Ghanaians have used Black Soap to help relieve acne, oily skin, clear blemishes and various other skin issues. African Black soap has also been used to achieve beautiful skin. Africans have also used this natural soap for bathing and washing their hair. Great for removing make-up. Black Soap will leave your skin soft, clear and smelling delicious. More importantly Black Soap is not for African-Americans, it’s for all skin-types.
Alata Samina or Anago Samina is the term used in the local dialect called Twi to refer to Black Soap or African Black Soap. Alata or Anago is a reference to the people of the Northern Region of Ghana, mainly the Hausa tribe. Alata Samina is now used all over Ghana.

I have been asked by many people to post shea butter recipes for hair, skin, and body. It seems that the internet is saturated with many so-called recipes that make false claims about shea butter. To be honest, Shea Butter can stand alone with no other ingredients. Much of what we use today in the form of shea butter is very minimal. Many lotions, creams and hair care products have such a small percentage of shea butter. Did you know that many of the lotions are only about 3% shea butter in content? The majority is water, stabilizers, and other non-essential ingredients. Most of these do not add moisture to the skin. I recently told a young lady to use just the raw shea butter she purchased from our site for her son who is suffering from severe eczema. She described to me what sounded like a bad case of eczema. I urged her that since her son’s skin was sensitive, that she start with just the one ingredient and evaluate his tolerability. She was hesistant to use the raw shea butter in it’s natural state. She wanted the shea butter to look smooth, creamy and pretty. I told her we have such product, but when you are dealing with a chronic problem it is always best to use the most active ingredient and in the case its shea butter. When shea butter cured my eczema, I was only using raw shea butter, I later added the ingredients such as essential oils and fragrance.
Additionally, many of you have purchased expensive lotions, shampoos, and skin creams only to stumble upon the benefits of shea butter and are now left with an inferior products. I say, don’t throw the product away. Simply add shea butter to it and make it a better product. Shea Butter in any recipe is a good recipe.
I was recently lecturing about the benefits of Shea Butter and I was appalled by the audience who told me how they have purchased “pure shea butter” at flea markets, chinese beauty supply stores or street vendors. They even remarked that they knew that they purchased pure shea butter because they saw the shea butter come out of this big, huge nut. It amazes me at what level people will go through to fool the public. Not only do they do this to the uneducated, it is done also to the educated. Many academically successful people hold the belief that shea butter comes in this huge nut or large gourd.Well, the truth of the matter is Shea Butter does not. Actually, the Shea nut is a small nut about the size of a wallnut. The fruit grows on the Karite tree in Africa. Although the color can vary, pure Grade , unrefined Shea Butter is typically light yellow to light beige. So when I see that deep yellow Shea butter that is very oily, slippery and smooth, I know that additives have been added. As a scientist, I know that Shea Butter has its on fingerprint that makes it unique. Much like us, we all have one characteristic that makes us all different and so does Shea Butter. It is hard with the human eye to look at Shea butter and determine what Grade . Pure Unrefined Shea Butter looks like. But, at Laeh Shea, our Grade A Shea Butter is lab tested and certified. Please see our lab certification on the website. Our Shea Butter is tested before it leaves Ghana, Africa and tested again once it reaches to the USA to guarantee potency. Many Shea Butter distributors trust what they paid for in Africa to be the same product that reaches the USA. In many cases it is not. Laeh Shea customer base is also a patient population with many skin ailments. We have to ensure that we have only authentic Shea Butter so that what reaches your skin is the best. Dr. Harris is one of the few Shea Butter experts. It is her knowledge that brings pure shea butter to the forefront.
Come meet Dr. Harris at the 1st Annual Natural and Organic Hair/Health Expo. This all day Expo will be held on 3/5/11 at the Pavillion in Phenix City, AL. Please call 706-507-0109 for more information.

Meet PJ. He is the handsome 15 month old that you just have to meet in person to appreciate his eyes. PJ wanted me to let you know that he uses Shea Baby for his smooth velvet skin. I met PJ a few months ago and I tell you his skin was soft and did I mention, his eyes, oh so cute; and hair soft as snow, but PJ has eczema. I immediately thought, oh no this can not be. This child is perfect in every way. Ruth, his mom had sought my advise for his condition and we began to use pure unrefined raw shea butter and a shea butter cream. Ruth had tried Johnson Baby Products and Aveeno and they all broke him out. The only thing that he can use on his tender skin is organic products. Today, PJ is breaking hearts at daycare.
Your baby’s skin is very vulnerable the first few years. We must be very careful what we put on it. Some natural oils are great, but they are comedogenic (acne causing). Our skin is slightly acidic (4.5 to 5.5) so that we can ward off bacteria and viruses. However, most products we put on our skin are high in ph and causes skin irritation. Many lotions consist of water and state that the lotion is ph balanced. Well it sound great for marketing purposes to say that this product is ph balanced, but is that what your body really needs. Think about it, if your skin is 4.5 ph to fight off bacteria and virus, why would you need a product that is ph balance (7.0)? Couldn’t that cause irritation? Absolutely! Why do companies do this? It is easier and cheaper to make products with other ingredients so that the active ingredients are minimzed in the product. Have you ever noticed that the active ingredients in most products has the smallest precentage in the product? The idea is never to fix the condition, it is to treat whatever problem marginally so that you can keep buying the product. The same thing holds true for many medications. You get just enough of the good stuff to keep you coming back. Our Shea Butter for Babies called Shea Baby is pure urefined Shea Butter from Ghana Africa. We use only oils like jojoba, grapeseed oil, sunflower, soybean, and sunflower and olive oil to make the shea butter creamy. We give you all the active ingredients. Period. All Laeh Shea butters is 100% shea butter and we use 10% vegetables oils to make our butters creamy and to give it additional healing fraction.
We all love our babies. And we want what is best for them. Until we begin putting the right products on our precious ones skin, our children will continue to get these unknown rashes that are hard to get rid of. Our babies need to be protected. If they are in daycare they are exposed to many toxins. The first place of prevention, is looking at the protection you are using on their skin. Most viruses are due to skin contact. We can minimize this by using natural soap, not all the cute fancy soap, and a good quality shea butter moisturizer and skin protectant. Do something for your baby today. Make your baby a Shea Baby.

Laeh Shea has distributors in several states now and it’s internet sells has sky-rocketed. If you are looking for shea butter soaps and African Black Soap, look no further, Laeh Shea is the place to go or you can find them on the web at www.laehshea.com.
Recently I was asked, “What is so good about Shea Butter?”I didn’t have to think about this question at all because I love talking about Shea Butter and its uses. Here in the south, (Columbus, GA) we can easily get excited about anything that works. And to answer the question, I simply said that Shea Butter works. For those who are just discovering Shea Butter they will tell you that whatever area they use Shea Butter on, there is improvement. I, myself, a chronic suffer of dry skin and severe eczema can attest to the healing properties of this butter. After many years of growing my hair chemical free, I opted to place a relaxer on my hair when I turned 40. My virgin hair was so healthy in its natural state and had experienced a growth that I never had before. To add insult to injury, I even added highlights. Within months my thick, bone straight hair had become thin, lymph and if woven together could make a carpet because most of it resided on bathroom floor.
To my dismay and especially my husband(he loves long hair) I was now in what I called “Hair Depression.” After settling in my career and by most standards considered myself successful, I began to disdain all the mannerism, venacular, appearance, an personality that had become apart of my elitist status. Like a rebellious kid, I went natural, embraced my ethnicity, began incorporating natural eating habits and loving all things natural. It took a LOT for me to embrace my natural hair. But, I dared myself and went natural. I began wearing braids and weaves because I still was not ready to cut all my hair off. Baby steps I said because I am a woman and my hair is still part of my glory. I was adamant that I did not want to cut my hair off to go natural. I had been to salons for a trim and have walked out to many times with a little more than an inch of hair or less. For some reason, in beauty school the don’t actually teach units of measure. A trim is less than an inch and never more than 5 inches! All of my previously stylist must have been absent from beauty school on that day.Anyway, I digress.
That brings to the question that was asked of me, Why is Shea Butter so good? A little more than a year ago, I “discovered” Shea Butter. I had heard about but new very little bit about it.more than it did when there wasn’t any Shea Butter in it. It wasn’t until I was in New York and got, believe it or not, pure Grade A Shea Butter from a street vendor. Within days my eczema was gone. I think this bears repeating, it was gone. Like no more. For me, I was cured. Until you have suffered from eczema you can’t begin to understand what that means. I had been on so many drugs and creams and most of them worked marginal at best. But, to look at my chest and breast (TMI intended) and to see no unsightly rash, or to not resist the urge to scratch EVERY WAKING MINUTE of the day was a miracle. I wanted this Shea Butter and I was willing to pay whatever. I began study and researching Shea Butter.I wanted to know all there was to know about it and more importantly I wanted to share it with others. In my kitchen I began formulating all kinds of products. Which brings me back to my hair.I started applying the raw Shea Butter to the edges of my head. I said to the edges of my head because there was no hair there. Within a month,” peach fuzz” started to grow and within several months I could actually slick it back if I had gelled it. Today, I am happy to say that I can rock a cute pony tail slicked back if I wanted to because the Shea Butter has grown the sides of my hair. As a scientist, couriousity has always been the birth of many things that have occurred in my life. I now use Shea Butter is almost all my products that I consume on a daily basis. I launder my clothes with Shea Butter, my body oil, shampoo, facial and body soap all are Shea Butter based. Everyone that knows me know that if you have a problem, I will tell you that in some way Shea Butter can fix it. LOL. This year I give everyone the gift of Shea Butter. This will be a Shea Butter Christmas for my friends. I have formulated Cranberry Shea Butter and next it will be Pineapple Shea Butter. The possibilities are limitless. So, I am so happy that Columbus, Georgia will be the new place of Shea Butter.

Since the first thing most people notice about a soap is how it smells, we’ve made every effort to bring you the most perfectly appointed scents that are not just heavenly to smell but intoxicating. Our soap is divided into two groups, Glycerin or Cold Process Soap (the kind your grandma use to make) Most of our scents have a purpose in mind. For example, if you want to smell mild and gentle, Shea Baby and Almond Goat Milk will leave you smelling soft like a baby and gentle as a milk bath. Our Romance and Response , is exactly as stated, very romantic and sexy. Coco-Mango, Pineapple Sorbet, Cucumber Melon, Grapefruit & Fig, Pom& Fig, Miles Pearadise, are all fruity/floral scents that will have everyone asking what are you wearing as you past by.
Most of our soaps are saponified coconut oil, shea butter, and olive oil, avocado, palm oil and other natural vegetable oils to produce soap. These are the base ingredients which when mixed with lye and water produce soap. These oils are carefully selected and exactly calculated to determine the quality and feel of the finished product. What makes Handmade soap special is that it retains the natural glycerin created during the soapmaking process: the glycerin that is frequentl removed by commercial soap makers. This makes all handmade natural soap the true “glycerin soap”. Our transparent glycerin soap is the next best alternative for skin sensitive people. Our glycerin bar is 85% all natural. Glycerin is the natural by-product of oil and water with lye (Sodium Hydroxide) to make soap. Remember, there is no such thing as soap without lye.
While it is possible to make soap with any plant or animal oil or fat (including cheap oils or even restaurant grease), at Laeh Shea So we choose to make our soaps with the highest quality of natural or organic vegetables and butters. We include Shea Butter in most of our soap because you just can’t beat the superior moisturizing and skin healing benefits of pure unrefined shea butter. We believe that the added time and cost of incorporating exceptional ingredients such as pure coconut oil, olive oil, mango butter and shea butter promotes not only a luxurious bath experience, but the improvement of your skin speaks for itself.
With the addition of other ingredients such scent, color and texture makes our soap attractive. We don’t use fillers used by commercial soapmakers to add bulk to the soap bar, our additives are high quality herbs, spices, colorants, essential oils or fragrance oils, chosen carefully to produce an unrivaled bar of natural soap.

Wholesale Shea Butter has come to Columbus, Georgia. Our 100% unrefined raw shea butter can be purchased as low as 1 pound or 100 lbs to a full drum. Laeh Shea has created a full line of Shea Butter products and African Black Soap for natural hair and skin health. Our products provide aid in treatment of acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin rashes and disorders. We are the premiere wholesaler of qualified organic Shea Butter. Shea Butter hair recipes for natural hair can be found on many websites on the internet, but only Laeh Shea products are formulated with the highest amount of Shea Butter. Many products on the market for natural hair that report to have Shea Butter generally only contain 3 to 5% Shea Butter. Laeh Shea’s Shea Butter Hair Smoothie and Ceramic Silk Fusion hair products contain 95 to 98% Shea Butter. We are proud to use only Grade A Certified Shea Butter that has been lab tested to be free of mold, yeast and bacteria. Make sure that Shea Butter that you purchase wholesale has that guarantee.
How can kinky hair become curly? You start out with a shea moisture cream the enhance curl patterns in the hair. Laeh Shea Hair Smoothie with probiotics takes your hair to the next level of shea moisture with curl enhancing smoothie. Curls can not do all that they are created to do when the hair is heavy with dirt, product build and dandruff. Much of hair moisture is lost by the often ignored bacteria on the scalp. Bacteria rob your hair of moisture Your scalp is just like your skin and when you introduce water based products to your hair you are setting yourself up for failure. No products of the market tackle this problem. Laeh Shea uses certified Grade A Shea Butter so that you are assured that the Shea Butter used in your hair is free of mold, yeast, bacteria and parasites. The cosmetic industry has exploded with shea butter products, but if you read the label there is only about 3 to 5% Shea Butter. Not enough to provide treatment. Uniformed sights and blogs are telling you that you need water in your hair for moisture. That is not so, water hydrates your hair and does not moisturize. There is a unique difference in moisturization and hydration when it comes to hair and skin. Natural hair lacks oil and more importantly kinky, natural hair is oil deficient. Your hair needs water only for shampooing and rinsing. At other times it needs oils. Laeh Shea Hair Smoothie is 95% Shea Butter with other organic oil and essentials oils to produce a smoothie mix of nutritive rich properties for maximum hair shine and hair health. Far to long have we been using water-based products with little to no results. Organic oils do not spoil, but water based products are a breading ground for bacteria on your scalp leaving your hair dry and lack luster so you find yourself constantly re-hydrating with water only to get the same unsucessful results. If you start with a healthy shea moisture based product from the start to create healthy hair, when you do apply water for a wet look, it creates shine and the water adheres longer to the hair and creates dynamic and dramatic curls. We love the Hair Smoothie because it does enhance curl.
When I lecturer, Ifind now that I always have to talk about black soap. African black soap is not so aptly named because true black soap is not black. In fact, is not hard and actually crumbles in your hand. We are a generation of new naturalists and in our quest to become smarter consumers, we fall short in identifying authentic products. It’s one thing to make a decision for use better cosmetics but its a lot harder knowing what content of these products are in the products we use now. Big business will always say give the customer what he wants. And guess what? They always do, but without telling you the hinden dangers, defining the small print, and fully disclosing what the product is made of.
That is surely the case with black soap. I have seen all kinds of black soap. Ignorant myself, I have several different brands, with several textures and a rainbow of colors that are reported to be black soap. I am even guilty of just ordering black soap on the internet to see what quality of soap I can get. I finally had to go to a large distributor from Africa that deals with fair trade to get the black soap that I can use in my body washes, shampoo, and facial cleanser.
The one problem that I have is that most people think black soap is for African Americans. Black soap is so good for all skin types that Laeh Shea will be poised to be a voice for all ethnicities for black soap and shea butter. It’s been two years now that I’ve been using black soap and 1 year since formulating products with black soap. It took me 6 months to nail down a formula for Black Soap because I was trying to find natural products to blend with the soap. It finallyhit me that the soaps does well all by itself. Unlike my natural shampoo, I need other co-ingredients to create shampoo. But, with black soap, no other ingredient really necessary. Simply dissolution into distilled water make a great wash, soap, shampoo or facial cleanser. For my extremely sensitive patients, I only use this formulation. For others, I may personalize it with some essential oils, if they have dandruff, or want a fragrance and if they are going to be using it sparingly, I do add a perservative. There are natural perservatives on the market one can use, however, I stop short of saying no products should have persavatives in it. In fact, our drinking what using chlorine and prevent bacteria. Anytime you introduce water to products, you must use a perservative unless you will consume the product immediately.
Black soap is made from the ashes of plantains which are rich in potassium. Laeh Shea adds Shea Butter as Black Soap can be drying. Consider purchasing wholesalel black soap or wholesale shea butter to create your own products. When you create your own products you know exactly what is in your creation.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Daily we are bombarded with chemicals and toxins on our skin and in our bodies, yet we are amazed that we are unhealthy. I’m amazed that the different soaps that I see on the aisle of stores and the ingredients that reportly are natural and organic. To begin with, let me tell you there is no such thing as soap without water, oil or lye. These are the basic ingredients of soap. The oils are vegetable oils or tallow made from animals. Vegetable oils producw a moisturizing rich, softer bar of soap and tallow make a great harder bar of soap.
Again, there is no such thing as 100% Shea Butter Soap. If its 100% then it will be butter instead of soap. Soap is a salt and it is the saponification process of mixing the water, lye and oils together that creates Soap. The chemistry of soap making is pretty exact and intricate. To get the right balance of the ingredients lye calculators must be used so that you do not produce soap that will irritate the skin. So what does that mean about glycerin soap? Glycerin is the natural by-product of oil, water, and lye mixing together. So even to produce glycerin, water, lye and oil must be saponified. Shea Butter soap is excellent for moisturizing the skin. Shea butter soap recipes are now the rave for all soapmakers. Yet, finding a company that puts that right amount of Shea Butter in its product to have Shea Butter benefits is a horse of a different color. As a formulator, and a Shea Butter enthusiasts, when I create shea butter soaps for Laeh Shea, I maximize the amount of Shea Butter that I can put into my shea butter soaps. Far to often, Shea Butter products on the market do not have enough Shea Butter to qualify as moisturizing. It is imperative if you are using Shea Butter products for skin disorders , eczema, or shea butter for hair that you make sure that you are actually getting Shea Butter in the product. Most products are only 1 to 3% Shea Butter based. Obviously, not enough to treat skin conditions such as eczema, acne, rashes and psoriasis condition natural hair.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can start purchasing your own Shea Butter from Certified Grade A retailers, like Laeh Shea and adding your own Shea Butter to products. Shea Butter hair products are the best products you can find for dry damaged hair. Shea butter soap is treat that you should treat yourself with daily. Laeh Shea will begin posting Shea Butter recipes to give your power to take control of the products your put on your body.
Until another day, happy Shea Butter living, Dr. Harris

My name is Michael A. Eddings and I practice law in Columbus, Georgia. I met Dr. Harris at a Chamber of Commerce Business meeting, and it was there that I was first introduced to her product line of Shea Butter. After Dr. Harris explained the benefits of her product on the health and care of the skin I shared with her a skin condition that I have around my angles. For years Ive had severe dry skin around my angles, which resembles a rash condition.
I am so sold on these products! Now in my mid thirties, I have been trying to find a solution for acne since my teen years. Ive tried so many over the counter products, Proactive, and even visits to the dermatologist with topical and oral antibiotics with only minimal improvements. Within the first month of using Laeh Shea’s facial products, breakouts were no more and my face took on a glow I don’t ever remember having before. People at work asked if I was pregnant and even my husband (who at times is not very observant lol) asked what I was doing differently.
As for the Shea Butter, just as pleased! I have found so many uses for it. I put it on the ends of my hair after styling making my hair not only smell good, but feel softer. Split ends, well, it minimizes the appearance of those too. It also does a wonderful job of keep the bottom of my feet soft.
I encourage anyone visiting to give it a try. You will not be disappointed!
I consulted with several doctors in the past, but none of them seem to be able to prescribe or recommend anything to treat and/or cure the condition. I showed Dr. Harris my skin discoloration and she was immediately familiar with the condition and recommended that I start using a Shea Butter Bump Soap, and the Shea body soaps for bathing. Also, she prescribed a skin cream to apply after the bathing around my angles.
Literally within two (2) weeks I saw results of the treatment working. For the first time in years the discoloration around my angles began fading and the natural color of my skin was retuning. Also, the soft texture of my skin had replaced the hard dry skin that formed around my angles. Beyond the benefits of restoring & reviving old dead dry skin around my ankles the bathing soap is simply wonderful for a clean refreshing bath/shower experience. I feel amazingly clean after bathing. The fragrance of the body soap penetrates the skin leaving you with a clean fresh and lasting feeling. It relaxes the body and makes you want to sleep for days.
Iam completely sold on Dr. Harris and her Laeh Shea Product line!
Michael A. Eddings

The Importance of Research & Development
With all the talk of natural and organic product development, many people are led to believe that R&D departments operate in an artificial world. But natural and botanical ingredients are also important to consumers and they pose a unique set of challenges to formulators. “Naturals and botanicals can be hard to create with true authentication given the expectations from consumers. It’s hard to find an active level of an extract sometimes. Just because a product is natural, typicall there has been little research done to find the strength and dosage that is active. It’s easy to say that an ingredient has natural extracts and botanicals, but to know and establish what the atictive level is quite another cry.
One of the main stumbling blocks to working with new natural ingredients is inconsistent quality. Many marketers are exploring botanicals from third world regions, but between non-standard methods of cultivation and environmental fluctuations, crops can have variable levels of ingredients, creating a nightmare for us researchers.
Once the consumer understands that true natural or organic raw material of natural origin do fluctuate in quality from one batch to the next b and may not consistently look, react, behave or share physical characterisitics, then the demand for these producs will be greater At Laeh Shea our raw ingredients fall within our established limits that we believe to be consistently safe and therapeutic.
Dr. Harris, the formulator for Laeh Shea produtcs, is highly sough after clinical research scientist. With over 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry helping to create new drugs on the market, has the expertise to create winning formulas that will take your product and business to the next level. Whether is private label of Laeh Shea proven effective products or customizing a complete new line, our Research & Development team will hold your hand from the beginning until end ensuring you’re perfectly satisfied with the finished product. Dr. Harris takes great pride in choosing raw ingredients natural and sometimes unnatural that have established limits that have been well-documented. Using ingredients that we can work with comfortably, overcome stability problems, and find the right level use is highy scientific and involves a great deal of experimentation. Our results are a synergistic blend of the right ingredients
Natural ingredients have become even more important for the skin-sensitve consumer and the drive to create and formulate better natural hair-care and skin care products are the driving force now of the cosmetic industry.
Laeh Shea provides and array of cosmetic bases that can be formulated to specification or used for private label usage. For the cosmetic enthusiast/entreprenuer Laeh Shea will provide custom formulations of R&D at the following rates:

In Africa, they have been using Shea Butter for thousands of years now. On the West Coast in the Savannah Grasslands, you will be able to find many Shea trees which they grow in order to produce Shea Butter. Such a tree will take about fifty years to grow into maturity usually around sixty feet tall. To ensure a better quality yellow Shea Butter product they do not cultivate the trees and let them grow as nature intended. It is only once during the year in which they can harvest the trees to make the Shea Butter we love so much. This time called the rainy season is in full swing. They are able to harvest millions of different nuts from these trees. One thing which makes the harvesting a little difficult, is the fact that they have to separate the white nuts from the yellow nuts.
The color of the Shea Butter will depend on the color of the nuts. The have no other choice than to separate the two. If you mix both these color nuts with each other you will end up with a horrible looking paste, which is not Shea Butter. People with very curly hair prefer to use Yellow Shea Butter because of the consistency. There is no real difference in the benefits of the two colors although both of them creates a different product. It takes these women about three to four weeks to produce enough of the Shea Butter to export to other countries.
Your hair and scalp is not the only areas in which you can use Yellow Shea Butter. Some of the other things Shea Butters works well for are bumps on your skin from shaving, scars or burn marks, people with arthritis or sore muscles. Some believe it takes the pain away and you can also use it if you suffer from dry skin.
Everybody wants healthy and shinning hair but with all the chemicals these days you get in the water as well as in your hair care products it becomes a difficult task to keep your hair in a good condition. However we get some options to prevent hair damage or to treat hair that is already damaged. Get your hair trimmed about every 5 to 8 weeks to remove any split ends. By getting yourself good Shea butter for hair formula you can avoid any further damages to your hair. Shampooing your hair every day can cause damage to your hair because shampooing strips your hair totally from its natural oils, and do not use deep cleaning shampoos too regularly because you do not want your hair frizzled and dried out, use it only every 2 to 3 weeks or longer.
Next, find a quality conditioner. Make sure your conditioner also has a Shea butter and it is recommended that you use it every time you wash your hair to keep your hair from drying out. Also remember not to brush your hair when it is wet, rather wait until it is dry and then comb it out gently to avoid breakage. Heat is terrible for the hair; avoid it where possible because the damage it can cause to your hair. If you must use heat on your beautiful, healthy and shinny hair use at least once a week with a good deep conditioning formula to help prevent heat damages.

The Shea butter tree is available in as much as nineteen different countries only in Africa. In the countries, West and East Africa the people still produce the fruit of this unique healing tree by hand. You will notice that there are two species available of the Shea tree, first the West African specie Vitellaria Parodoxa and then the East African specie, which they call the Vitellaria Nilotica whose butter is much rarer than the butter of the West African tree. They use the seeds of the Shea trees to make the Shea butter by obtaining the solid oils from the nuts. Those trees can take as long as thirty years before they bear fruit for the first time and just bloom from June to July. Quite interesting is the fact that the trees can live a few hundred years before it is necessary to replace them. The fruits of the Shea tree are much like a plum and each fruit contain a nut with a white kernel that is hard inside it. This hard white kernel is used to produce the Shea butter which is then added to most skin care products.
When tracing the roots of the Shea tree you will notice that the women from Nasia use the oil from the nuts for ages to protect their skins in that terrible weather conditions. Today people go to the nearest shop where they buy the formula they need, just keep an eye on the label to make sure that the contents of the product is natural. Products that contain pure Shea butter can be expensive but is at the same time worth every penny you spend on it. Pure Shea butterâEUR(TM)s healing effects are excellent and the product itself is of the best quality.
To know how the whole process of making the Shea butter works can be really interesting. Women walking long distances gathering the fruit that falls from the Shea butter tree while the production is their responsibility too. After they gather the fruit they must immediately start with the drying process before they can crack all the nuts. Remember all those tasks are done by hand. Only then, they can go to the next step of crushing and grounding, roasting and cooking before they can let the finished product to cool down. A complex procedure to follow but if they do not follow each step carefully the whole batch of Shea butter will be a complete mess.
Not many people know what the difference between your yellow and your white Shea butter is. The meaning of the raw butter is that it is finished after the cooling process over, and it is all natural from there the pale yellow to creamy white color. When you wash the Shea butter and melt it in the raw process, you will find a refined product. After this process is over the next step can start until all the steps are completed and the final product remains with a white color. You also get Shea butter that they process with chemicals such as hexane, which leaves the butter pure white and that, is what they call ultra-refined Shea butter. Ultra-refined Shea butter has no natural qualities left after the process with the chemicals. Again, it brings you back to the question of which one is the best the raw or the refined product. Making a choice between raw two types of Shea butter is more likely a case of preference because it is only the smell and the texture, which differs.
Many people use the raw product in their homemade recipes to ensure that they get the best quality of product and healing effects. Other unique properties of pure or raw Shea butter are nonsaponifiable fatty acids which improve the elasticity of the skin; cinnamic acid which is a natural sunscreen; Vitamins A, E and F which helps in the prevention of wrinkles; anti-elastase properties which reduce stretch marks; anti-inflammatory agents which relieves eczema and stigmasterol which is useful to relax tired muscles. It does make you think as to why we as humans have not thought of using natural product all through our lives. Here we have something, which can help us, but instead we go for expensive products that are non-effective and very expensive medical procedures, which leave us in much pain.
White Shea Butter is excellent for your hair. You need to wash your hair as you normally do and dry it with a towel. Once most of the water is out of your hair you can take some of the Shea Butter and massage it into your scalp down to the roots of your hair. It is best if you leave it in your hair for about half an hour before you rinse it off again. If you do this three times a week, you will have beautiful and healthy hair.
Each day more and more people prefer to purchase Shea butter cosmetics instead of the ones they always do because of the chemicals in certain cosmetics. When cosmetics contain any chemicals it can be harmful for the skin as well as your health, while their counterparts which contain natural ingredients improve the overall appearance of the skin. Many of the cosmetic industries add chemicals to their product to make it easy to use and smell better for instance; knowing that they fool their customers by telling them it is a natural product that really works. This includes products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair gels, skin lotions, facial creams, toothpaste and certain ointments. Many of the side effects of using a product containing chemicals do not show the harm it causes immediately after using the product, it can take a while. Therefore, they recommend that you keep an eye on the labels of all products making sure it has a hundred present natural content with no chemicals added.
Some of the ingredients you find in cosmetics which are toxic to human bodies are chemicals like acryl-ate, propylene glycol, sodium laurel, paraffin and petrolatum, benzoic acid, sodium benzoate, phenol carbolic acid and Parabens to name a few. When you see the list of toxic chemicals, which you can find in cosmetics, you want to shop with a list of them all in your bag to make sure you do not waste your money on something that can damage your skin. Rather buy a product which contains only natural ingredients such as herbs, Shea butter, Aloe Vera, natural palm oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil, yucca root, castile soap, balsam tolu and myrrh.
Not all people are aware of the benefits of Shea butter cosmetics and therefore do not buy it. It is much safer buying skin care products which have a zero level of chemical ingredients. The list of the benefits of Shea butter products is quite long. A few of the benefits you can rely on is the moisturizing effect you get with the use of Shea butter; anti-aging benefits as well as a long list of the healing effects. All those benefits come along with only the highest quality of Shea butter you can get. Remember your grade A Shea butter are the best while the grade F is the worst of all. It is genuinely worth it to pay a bit more and purchase a good quality product that can only improve the quality of your skin.
If you listen to people talking about Shea butter, Shea oil or the Shea tree, you name it, it does not matter you immediately start to wonder what this is all about seeing that they say you will love the product. The Shea tree or Karite tree or the âEURoeTree of LifeâEUR as some people call is only available in Africa. People use the oil of the fruit/ nut or seeds already for years now for different in conditions as well as for the healing affects it have. The thick oil they extracted from the nuts of the tree they call raw unrefined Shea butter, and it contains carotene as well as Alantoin, which are an excellent moisturizing treatment for the skin. To make Shea butter is one of the hardest working jobs you can think off. Each step must be followed precisely otherwise the whole batch of Shea butter can be ruined.
Shea butter in skin care, hair care as well as soaps get more and more popularity each day as it is a fantastic healing product. More and more people also use the raw Shea butter in their homemade products though they are a bit expensive because it is Shea butter in its purest form. When you start using raw Shea butter as an anti-aging cream treatment you will see the difference in your skin within a few weeks time. You can also use raw Shea butter as a remedy to one of the following conditions such as rashes, itching, skin cracks, blemishes, dry skin, wounds, insect bite, sunburn, frost bite and many more.
Again it brings you back at a question like; âEURoewhat exactly is raw unrefined Shea butter and what is the difference between the unrefined and refined butter?âEUR Unrefined Shea butter is when they follow the procedures by making no use of any conventional techniques that might strip the final product from any nutrients. In other words the final product is free from any chemicals or synthetic agents. Refined Shea butter is when certain chemicals is added to the oil and again heated up. This is also the reason why unrefined Shea butter is more expensive than the refined product. Therefore it is much more of an investment to purchase the unrefined Shea butter than the refined one. Always keep in mind that the Shea butter will be certified Grade F butter has the lowest healing effects while its counterpart who is certified Grade A is from the highest quality.
Before we start talking about the benefits of pure unrefined Grade A Shea Butter, it is important that you know the difference between this one and the refined product. If Shea Butter is unrefined, it means that there are not added chemicals in the product. The Shea Butter in this state is the same as it was before it left the African countries. The refined product on the other hand has scented oil, zinc and other ingredients in order to make facemasks, hand creams, body lotions, foot cream and much more. Although both of these options have properties, which will be beneficial to your skin, it is a fact that the unrefined product is better. The reason for this is that the chemicals in the refined product can damage your skin as much as other products on the market.
If you decide to use a refined product, you will still see the results but it will take longer. The smell and texture of these will be different as well. They normally whip the butter and slowly add oils and more so that they can make the skin care, product consumers are demanding. It smells nice as well where the unrefined butter have a nutty smell to it. You can run your very own test to see which of the two are working the best. If you have stretch marks, you can put refined butter and unrefined butter on different places everyday for four weeks. You will see a difference in both but the area on which you added the pure unrefined Shea Butter will be gone where the other area will be lighter.
Many might wonder why pure unrefined Shea Butter is so effective in curing skin problems where other products, which our scientists are working hard on, are not so effective. When the women in Africa make the Shea Butter, they do not make use of machinery and they work gently with the seeds to ensure that they do not damage the nutrients of the flesh in the seeds. It is these exact nutrients, which has the properties to heal your skin and the cells in your skin to give you a much younger and radiant look. It is not everyone who truly appreciates what Shea Butter can offer them and it is simply because they do not understand the process, history and benefits. They have to use the product for a while to see what it has to offer.
When you end up loosing weight very fast or even picking up weight you will start to notice stretch marks on your body. Pregnant women suffer from this on a regular basis. There is no product available, which will be able to get rid of these marks no matter how hard you try, unless you use Shea Butter for stretch marks. The Vitamin E component of the product reduces the stretch marks in such a way that you will not be able to see it at all. You no longer have to cover yourself up when you go to the beach and can wear your bikini with confidence. If it can heal scars on your body, it can surely get rid of the stretch marks that bother women all over the world so much.
Shea Butter is a very close relative of cocoa butter and looks similar in color and texture as well. The only difference is that Shea Butter in its pure and raw form has more benefits for the skin. Unbelievably but they sometimes use this butter in chocolates instead of coco butter. As such, a good product is available in chocolates then surely, chocolates must be good for you. Here is the reason you have been waiting for to eat chocolates without feeling guilty. Ok it is just a joke as you still have to eat your sweets in moderation otherwise you will end up with stretch marks with all the weight you will be picking up.
Together with the Vitamin E in the Shea Butter is also has the ability to moisturize your skin very much. It is this moisturizing factor, which prevents possible stretch marks to appear on your skin and to make the existing marks disappear or at least appear invisible. The reason as to why it will appear invisible is that Shea Butter changes your skin so much that it is an even color. The fact that stretch marks are darker than your normal skin color make it stand out more and when it blends in with your natural skin color nobody will be able to see them. If you use Shea Butter, stretch marks will be the last thing you need to worry about, as you grow older. If you happen to be pregnant, you will be able to enjoy the process without the stretch mark devil whispering in your ears all the time to watch what you eat.
Thanks to the ancestors of African countries and the fact that they continue to pass their knowledge on to their children they are able to produce high quality natural products, which is great to use for your skin and health. Let us take a trip down to Africa to see how they make the African Shea Butter soap, which we love to use these days. There are the two African regions, which produces these products. They are the East and the Western regions. Each of them has a unique way in producing a product, which will benefit you in the same way. The traditional soap from Africa, which is black, is something that they have been using for centuries now because of the healing properties it has.
It is only recently that the Western countries started using this as well. Once they realized what the soap can do to your skin they started by spreading the word to other countries. This is how the exporting of Shea Butter started in the first place. It is this exact exporting ability for the country, which has become the source of income. They manage to harvest the seeds to make the Shea Butter once a year and have to harvest enough to sustain the country for the rest of the year. Who would have thought that a natural seed from a tree could become something, which is keeping a whole nation alive by feeding it through the year?
You will be able to find many recipes, which you can use to make your own Shea butter soap, but none of them will be able to keep up with the quality of the traditional African Shea Butter soap they produce in these countries. It is hard work for these women but thanks to the guidance from their parents and ancestors, they are able to do it in a matter of weeks. It is also something, which they enjoy thoroughly as it empowers them. It is not easy having a group of women working together but somehow they manage to work well as a team and get the job done without compromising on the quality of the products that they produce. Many countries can learn something from these African countries when it comes to working together to feed a nation. Therefore, you are not only buying African Shea Butter soap for the benefits you are getting but the empowerment of women as well.
The natural product Shea Butter we know better as Karite, which means life in many African countries for a few centuries now. To be more specific they make these in the West and East African countries by hand. Shea Butter is in fact the fat that you get from the flesh of the nut inside the seeds of the Shea/Karite tree. The women of these countries pick the nuts with their hands and dry it out in the sun for about a week. The reason as to why they dry the nuts is that it increases the time that you can store the product for in its raw form. Once they finish with drying the nuts, they will crush it hard enough to loosen the skin of the nut so that they can take the flesh out. This brings you a step closer to the whip Shea butter you want.
You might be wondering as to why they are crushing the nuts with their hands, but it is so that the flesh will retain all the necessary nutrients in order to give you a quality product. This also ensures that the product keeps the nice nutty and musky smell. The color of the butter differs depending on how mature the tree is. The different color variations of the pure butter you might find is off white, gray, golden brown or green. Once they have the butter or powder form they will refine it in a natural way only once. They do this to get rid of the extra pieces of skin, leaves and other things, which might hurt your skin when you apply it.
Shea butter is not just a product that you can use to apply on your body. In the African countries, they very often use it to cook instead of using cooking oil. People working in the fields daily expose their skin to the sun, which will damage it with sunburn and in order to prevent such damage, they apply Shea Butter to avoid sun bun and to keep the skin hydrated in the sun. If the area you are living in is very cold then this will be the ideal product to help you with dry skin and chapped heals. In order to use the product easier you should try to whip Shea Butter. It is much easier to apply to your skin especially when you shave.
If you are tired of spending hundred of dollars a year on cosmetic and sunscreen products, which simply does not work, then you must consider making your own Shea Butter products, which is a guarantee that it will work. If you are not sure how to do this then you need to have a look at the endless amount of Shea Butter recipes they have available on the internet and some books. The good thing about mastering these recipes is that you will soon be able to make enough so that you can sell it and so start your very own business.
Some of the recipes that you can get are to make your own lip balm, conditioner, lotion, soap, facemasks, scrubs and more. The one thing on which we are going to concentrate today is the making of a sunscreen. Sunscreen is an expensive product and you simply must have it to protect your family against the harmful effects of the sun so that they do not damage their skin or get cancer, as they grow older. With summer, fast approaching now is the time for you to experiment so that you are ready for those sunny days.
The best way to make a sunscreen is to use five ounces of grape seed oil, Shea Butter from which a tablespoon will be enough, half an ounce of beeswax, four ounces of hydrosol (any type will do), and zinc oxide powder (you can use about two tablespoons full). Once you have all the ingredients ready you can start by making your very own sunscreen. You have to melt the oil, beeswax and Shea Butter over a pot of boiling water. Once the ingredients melt, you can add the zinc powder. You then leave it to cool off completely. If the mixture is cold, you can use a blender to mix the hydrosol in slowly. All you need to do now is to put it in a clean container and straight into your fridge until you need to use it on a day when you are visiting the beach.
In any of the Shea Butter recipes for sunscreen, you will find that the zinc and hydrosol are the most important ingredients. If you do not have these in your product, you will not be able to protect your family from the sun. The Shea Butter in the recipes help to keep the skin full of moisture as the sun tends to dry your skin.
The Shea Butter product is something, which you can use to improve the overall quality of your skin, and it is a product straight from nature. You are using an organic product, which means that no animal products are involved in the making of the butter, and anyone can use it, as it is a Halaal product. For something to be around from about 1797 or longer and still work well for us as humans surely is a declaration for the quality of the product. There is absolutely no reason as to why you should be scared to make a choice and use Shea Butter unless of course you are allergic to nuts. If you do have allergies, there are other natural products on the market available for you from which you can choose.
The tree, which produces the seeds from which we make Shea Butter, is from the African countries where the women of these regions make the products by hand. They have been doing this for centuries and continue the same process today because it retains the smell, minerals and vitamins more than what it will when you use machines to do the work for you. Many cosmetic companies use the Shea Butter as a component, which is fatty and will be able to solidify the skin care product that they are creating. Topical creams, ointments and lotions are amongst the products, which contain Shea Butter.
The unsaponifiables, which you will find in any Shea Butter product, is great for your skin in feeding it with the necessary nutrients it might need to become soft and radiant again. People prefer to add this to make up such as lipstick. The reason for this is so that you are able to use your favorite make up outdoors and still have the necessary protection from the sun and wind. You can also use Shea Butter in the making of products such as body oils. These oils are great to use on the skin of babies to moisturize it during the winter especially.
Another great Shea Butter product is oil, which you can use in your food when you cook. People very often use this when cooking instead of using coconut oil that is unhealthier for you than the Shea Butter. If you have a look at the different online companies, you will be able to choose from a great variety of Shea Butter products to ensure that you live a healthier life.
For many years people did not recognize the benefits of natural Shea Butter from Africa, instead they opted to use Vaseline instead. People from Africa used to sell this on the streets for around five dollars a container, but still hardly anyone bothered to buy it from them. The reason as to why people decided to use Vaseline over Shea Butter is that it was cheaper and that they were not educated enough on the benefits of the product nature provided them.
Now that we have technology to our advantage to communicate with others easily, it became possible to let the world know what Shea Butter can do for you. Thanks to this, more people are starting to use Shea Butter and starting businesses everywhere to sell it to others in order to make the world aware of what is on offer. These are factors, which can damage your skin greatly, and if you can teach your children from an early stage to take care of themselves and use Laeh Shea products or a company like Tree hut Shea Butter all through their lives.
Shea butter is one of the most effective natural products you can find these days. Pure Shea Butter products are available in most countries although it originates from West African countries such as Uganda and Ghana. In its purest form, you can use it as butter or you can whip it a bit so that it is easier for you to apply to your skin. By making use of the pure products, you are assisting your skin in reaping the ultimate benefits from these products instead of standing the chance to harm your skin more with refined products, which contains harmful chemicals. Although the refined product smell nice it is the wrong way to go if you are serious about getting your skin in the best shape possible.
With the amount of pure Shea Butter products available, you are able to care for your body, your face, hair, your hands and feet as well as your children. Some of the pure products which you will be able to find are hand cream, bath soap, body cream, foot cream, face cream, liquid soap, plain organic Shea butter as well as hair and facial masks. Both men and women are able to enjoy this product without having to worry about something such as allergies. It does not matter from which place you are you will still be able to benefit from these products.
There are different ways in which you are able to purchase these products. You can either have a look at organic shops within your area to see what products they have on offer. The only thing about these shops is that they tend to be more expensive as they do not buy big quantities of the product to qualify for discounts. Online is another option where you are bound to get many companies who offer discounts and give you the opportunity to compare prices and products in your own time.
The best way for you to purchase your pure Shea Butter products is to look for a wholesale company who specializes in such products. Firstly, they are able to sell it to you at cheaper prices because they are purchasing it from the suppliers in bulk. You should consider purchasing your products in bulk as well as you will get it cheaper and be able to hand some to your family as gifts or you can start your very own company by selling the products.
Not many people know that cocoa butter is the close relative of Shea butter and they do not know all the uses of a common product such as this or what to use it for on the skin. Before you can dream about using a Shea butter product, you must understand that it is a natural ingredient in many products with great healing properties. Shea butter uses can vary from hair care to ointments and cosmetics. The Shea trees are found in Africa (more specific West Africa and East Africa) and can take between 15 up to 30 years before it bears fruit and is fully-grown. The seeds/nuts from the Shea tree are handpicked. After this, the seeds undergo the cold press process, which is the hardest part of making the butter before you see the results. The color of the finished product may vary from ivory to a yellowish color, only then can you start using the butter in different products.
Most companies in the cosmetic industry make use of Shea butter as a natural healing ingredient in their products like Shampoos, conditioners, anti-aging creams, moisturizers, lotions, lip balms, acne formulas, creams for stretch marks and much more. Some people use this ingredient in their candle making projects, shaving creams, soaps as well as a whole lot of ointments and sunscreens. Others use Shea butter as cooking oil or even in chocolate as a substitute for cocoa, even in pet food, or raw in homemade recipes. Interesting is the fact that Shea butter is also used to moisturize some of the African instrumentâEUR(TM)s wood as in the case of marimbas, Djembes and gourds. Keep in mind that the quality of this substance may vary from product to product and the higher the grade the better the quality of the product. For example, the grade A Shea butterâEUR(TM)s quality is much better than a product, which contains the grade F Shea butter that has the lowest healing effects.
Remember that you are the one who benefits through the many Shea butter uses you get these days, because you are getting a product with many healing effects when you purchase yourself a product with a highly rated content of Shea butter. Shea butter contains vitamin A, E and F, while it is a natural sun protection and moisturizer and you can use it during the day or night for a glowing and healthy look.
If you are planning a life changing experience by starting to look after your body and give your skin the best treatment there is you should purchase a few containers of pure raw Shea Butter. Although most products containing Shea Butter will be beneficial to your skin, none of them will be able to offer you what the raw Shea Butter will be able to offer you. Something, which we all know, is that the more natural a product is the better it is for your skin.
Before we talk about the different benefits of the pure raw Shea Butter, it is important to know where it comes from so that you will be able to understand the process and appreciate the hard work, which goes into creating such a product. In your African countries they grow Shea or as most people know it the Karite trees. Once these trees reach a ripe age of thirty years they start to produce seeds. The flesh from these seeds is what we are after as it is what the women in these countries use to make the Shea Butter. Depending on the maturity of the tree the color of the Shea Butter will vary from a very light beige color to a color with a tint of green. The reason why we have to appreciate the product is that these women are making the butter by hand from the time they pick it from the trees to the time that they pack it for shipping. This is a lengthy process and because it takes so long for the trees to mature, we can understand why the product is not one of the cheapest available.
The Shea Butter will be able to make your skin appear younger and softer but the one benefit, which stands out from all the other is the fact that it is one of the best moisturizers, you can possibly find. For centuries now, women and men have been using this to keep the skin hydrated especially in extreme weather conditions. If you have a container of pure raw Shea Butter at home, you do not need to worry about purchasing any other items for your emergency kit, as this is enough to sooth any wounds as well as disinfect them. This is just some of the properties from Shea Butter, which is making it such a popular household item right over the world.
Whenever anyone talks about Shea Butter, they talk about the product that you get from East and West Africa. You hardly hear about the Nubian Shea Butter, which is just as effective. Normal Shea Butter is great for softening the skin, healing scars and much more where the Nubian product is great at working on different kinds of skin conditions. What is making this kind of butter so much different is the fact that it penetrates your skin deeply and start healing from deep within the roots so that the problems does not occur again. It might take a bit longer but in the end, it will be worth the wait.
The Nubian Shea Butter works on skin problems such as delicate skin conditions, normal to dry skin conditions, sensitive skin, oily or problem skin problems, skin which is acne prone, and lastly problems with a combination skin type. The way in which they end up with this product is to take healing properties of natural products from Asian, African and Hispanic countries and combine them. The result is a product, which will work wonders on any type of skin. In addition, this organic product is great for your hair. In Nubian countries, you will find that the people take good care of themselves by making sure they use natural therapeutic oils on the skin for great results. This is one of the ingredients, which they mix with Shea Butter to give you the perfect skin care product.
They whip the Shea Butter from Africa and add the Hispanic and Asian ingredients together with the essential oils from Nubia to make the Nubian Shea Butter that you are using these days. The fact that it is whipped means that it will be much easier to apply to your skin than the raw butter, which has a harder texture. As the product evolves through studies, they are able to bring soap, scrubs, facials and more to you on a daily basis. These products go through intensive tests at laboratories to ensure that what you get is the best quality. Most celebrities and people are going organic in the way they are eating and using organic skin care products is a step further for them in the right direction to save the earth. The fact that they do not use machinery in the making of Shea Butter is another go green plus for the environment.
There are so many questions concerning the term âEURoemaking Shea butterâEUR that your head might start spinning of all the questions. It will definitely help you a lot if you know little of the history of the Shea tree, also called the âEURoeTree of LifeâEUR or the Karite tree. The Shea tree is only available in Africa, to be more specific East and West Africa. These trees are available in two species namely the Vitellaria Parodoxa in West Africa and the Vitellaria Nilotica in East Africa. The East African specie is much softer and rarer than the West Africa specie. Such trees takes as long as fifteen years before it bears any fruit and as long as thirty years to be fully grown up trees.
When it bears fruit, the work starts. They handpick the fruit and then start the cold press process to make the famous Shea butter, which is most cosmetic companies use in their products. Normally women are the ones who crack the seeds after it they collect it from the trees. Now that they have the nuts from the seeds, they crush the nuts into a powder, which is very hard work. It can take hours before the crushed nuts are ready to start the roasting process.
They then pour the powdered Shea nuts into large pots that are set up on wood fires and continue to stir the nuts to prevent any burning that can ruin the whole pot of nuts. As soon as the cream is hot and heavy they can start with the next step which is to ground the roasted nuts into a much smoother cream , adding some water and mix it by hand for that creamy texture. When it reaches the right texture, the paste they put it into tubs large enough to put in more water to separate any oils. As soon as the oils float, on top of the water, they must scoop it out and it must look like the finished product. The Shea butter will undergo another boiling process to remove any excess water before they leave it to harden in a cool and dry place. Making Shea butter is a difficult and hard process but fun. Now you can start experimenting by making your own homemade skin and hair care recipes with pure Shea butter. By using the purest form of Shea butter, you ensure that you get the best quality products with amazing healing effects.
Karite Shea Butter is a product from nature to assist us in healing skin problems as well as being able to use it in food. One of the biggest modern problems, which this product is great with, is acne. Normally you will go to a dermatologist and get ointments and laser treatments, which cost you thousands of dollars and the result is something, which you are not happy with especially considering the amount of money you had to pay. With treatments such as the above, you could very well end up with a problem, which is bigger than the one you had when you went there the very first time.
In order to get rid of acne you do not need a lot of money, as you will be able to purchase this kind of Shea Butter for fewer than ten dollars online. You might even get it cheaper if you purchase it from a company who buys their products in bulk from wholesalers around the world. If you use Karite Shea Butter products on a daily basis, you will be able to see a remarkable difference in the texture of your skin in less than four weeks. The main reason as to why this product is so effective is the anti-inflammatory properties it has. Acne is after all an inflammation of the skin that is why Shea Butter works so well. It also assist with opening the blocked pores ensuring that you do not have future blackheads which might make the healing process more difficult.
Many people continue to ask why this product is so effective compared to the products which scientists have spent many hours on perfecting. There is no other reason than the fact that it is natural and that it has all the necessary nutrients intact because of the fact that they make the butter by hand. The problem with other products is that it has chemicals and very often alcohol in it, which will dry your skin out or irritate the skin making the problem worse. Natural products do not have these chemicals in it so you are now using something that cannot harm your skin. If you show any signs of an allergy to nuts, you will not be able to make use of the Karite Shea Butter products. The next time you plan a holiday with your family it might be a good idea to visit these countries to learn more about Shea Butter.

ORGANIC HAIR SMOOTHIE W/ probiotics
CERAMIC SILK FUSION
Natural Hair has never been so popular. Whether you are transitioning from chemical to natural or already fully natural, finding hair care products that promote healthy hair is a challenge. At Laeh Shea we combined science with nature to create healthy hair-care products for natural hair or chemically treated hair. Our products are natural and/or organic ingredients designed to make your hair grow, improve hair texture, and give you a healthy scalp. Many products on the market are filled with water as the main ingredient and that is good if you are washing or rinsing your hair. But, because we are bombarded with so many chemicals, toxins and synthetic ingredients, simple water-based ingredients are not enough to promote healthy hair. Damaged hair needs moisture and reconstruction and most products on the market do not contain the ingredients necessary to do this. Water-based products are cheap to make. Natural and organic oils are not. At Laeh Shea we incorporate Organic Certified Shea Butter and all natural vegetable oils in all our hair care products because we believe that this promotes healthy hair. Our HAIR SMOOTHIE is great for dandruff and dermatitis. Most dandruff and dermatitis is a yeast infection. Most dandruff products do not address this. We are the first to provide a formulation with probiotics. We are blending medicine and beauty together. Your hair is an appendage of your body. When it’s sick: treat is with the medicine that it needs.
We have testimonials that show healthy hair growth, brilliant shine and improved overall hair appearance because natural ingredients work. Treat your hair just like you would your body. You wouldn’t put junk in your body, so the same rules apply for your hair. Healthy hair begins with hair that is washed and conditioned properly. Laeh SHEA MEDICATED SHAMPOO stimulates the scalp with all natural essential oils to treat the scalp with the nutrient it needs. Contrary to what you have been told, there is no such thing as conditioning shampoo. Shampoo ingredients contain detergents and surfactants that strip the hair of oil and dirt. Both the oil that is produced by the body and the oil that you put on your hair is removed during the shampooing process. Therefore, you can’t have a shampoo that conditions if your shampoo contains a cleansing agent. Simply put, you must condition the hair after you shampoo. So what conditions the hair? Many conditioners contain the same ingredients that shampoo the hair minus the detergent and surfactants. Have you ever wondered why after conditioning you hair, your hair still does not behave the way you thought it should? That’s because you are treating a moisturizing problem with a hydration solution.
I’ll repeat this again for clarity. If you have damaged, slow growing , dry or dull hair and you are using a shampoo and conditioner, but your haven’t experienced any results, it’s because you are treating a problem with the wrong prescription. African American hair specifically, lacks the oils that are necessary to have healthy, long, shiny hair. To add injury to insult, we constantly use products that are water -based. Water provides hydration. African American hair only needs hydration during washing only. All other times it needs moisturization. Hydration and moisturization is two different animals. Hydration comes from the outside and moisturization comes from the inside. Where your hair needs moisture is at the root which is underneath the scalp. Not the hair that is visible. Your hair needs to be treated like a plant. You fertilize the root in order for the leaves to grow. Same thing with hair. If your fertilize the root, then hair shaft grows. Great wonderful oils provide this. Oils, like Castor, Olive, Sweet Almond, Soybean, Avocado, Jojoba, Shea Oil, Mango Butter Oil, and Grapeseed oil creates healthy, beautiful natural or chemically treated hair.

When lotion just wonâEUR(TM)t do. You need body oil. We are all familiar with Baby oil, however, most of do not know that it is filled with mineral oil or petroleum. Mineral oil is misleading because it does not contain the mineral oils that are skin-friendly for chronic skin suffers. Baby Oil is the by- product of gasoline and petrol. Yes this is a natural product. But, not all natural products are good for your skin.
At Laeh Shea we don’t promote the use of lotion. Lotion is typically 70% water and other fillers. While water is the single most important element, when skin is extremely dry, irritated or inflammed, hydration is not what your skin need for repair. Dry irritated, cracked skin is a sign of lack of moisture. Your body need to be hydrated when washing, cleaning or replacing fluid loss, but for smooth, moist, well-conditioned skin, you need an oil. And no, not just any oil will do. You must feed your skin close to what you feed your body. Your body needs natural oils like Laeh Shea body oils.
Each year there seems to a be a new discovered oil that some ancient people have been using for years. These oils report to be the new Fountain of Youth. The truth of the matter is that skin ages. There is no such thing as reverse signs of aging. But, what is possible is the retardation of the slowing down of aging skin. Our body continuously attempts to renew itself. If we keep the environment that our skin lives in as healthy as possible, many of the potions, ointments, creams, and serums will not be as necessary. Unfortunately, we can’t do much about some of the toxins, gases and chemicals we are exposed to. But, we can do better with the products that we put on our skin. As consumers, we must pay attention to the ingredients that are in the products we are purchasing. You want the minimal amount of ingredients in any one product. Some will have you to believe that the longer the name the worse the ingredient is. I just want you to know that there are natural ingredients that have long scientific names and are natural too. You do not have to be a chemist to know what these ingredient are. But you can make better choices by recognizing some of the bad ingredients. Also begin to ask yourself what do I want this product to do. When I speak to people and they are complaining about a product that does not work the way they would like it to work, I always ask how long you been using it? The answer to this questions is always surprising. Many answer months, if not years. So much dedication for something that doesn’t work. I don’t get that. I’m always proud of those who I have converted to using natural body oils. The testimonies that I get weekly are astounding. Once your body begins to be moisturized with oils rather than hydrated with lotion, you will see a dramatic difference in the appearance of your skin. The dry scaly look disappears, no more irritation and the reduction of inflammation alone is enough to never think of lotion. Another thing to remember is that lotion is 70% water. When you introduce water to a product it must be perserved with a germicide to prevent bacteria from growing. Natural vegetables oils such as Grapeseed , Shea, Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Avocado, Soybean, Wheat Germ, are all natural and don’t grow bacteria. Bacteria freely lives in water but not oil. So convert to natural and organic body oils. Excellent for Eczema, burns, dry skin, stretch marks, blemishes and age spots.
