The natural product Shea Butter we know better as Karite, which means life in many African countries for a few centuries now.  To be more specific they make these in the West and East African countries by hand.  Shea Butter is in fact the fat that you get from the flesh of the nut inside the seeds of the Shea/Karite tree.  The women of these countries pick the nuts with their hands and dry it out in the sun for about a week.  The reason as to why they dry the nuts is that it increases the time that you can store the product for in its raw form.  Once they finish with drying the nuts, they will crush it hard enough to loosen the skin of the nut so that they can take the flesh out.  This brings you a step closer to the whip Shea butter you want.

You might be wondering as to why they are crushing the nuts with their hands, but it is so that the flesh will retain all the necessary nutrients in order to give you a quality product.  This also ensures that the product keeps the nice nutty and musky smell.  The color of the butter differs depending on how mature the tree is.  The different color variations of the pure butter you might find is off white, gray, golden brown or green.  Once they have the butter or powder form they will refine it in a natural way only once.  They do this to get rid of the extra pieces of skin, leaves and other things, which might hurt your skin when you apply it.

Shea butter is not just a product that you can use to apply on your body.  In the African countries, they very often use it to cook instead of using cooking oil.  People working in the fields daily expose their skin to the sun, which will damage it with sunburn and in order to prevent such damage, they apply Shea Butter to avoid sun bun and to keep the skin hydrated in the sun.  If the area you are living in is very cold then this will be the ideal product to help you with dry skin and chapped heals.  In order to use the product easier you should try to whip Shea Butter.  It is much easier to apply to your skin especially when you shave.
